Surviving Lockdown 2021 – Niamh

a person holding a bag of luggage

We have been talking amongst ourselves about what has been keeping us going through this seemingly never-ending winter lockdown. Until we can share our love for the outdoors with you in person we hope a glimpse of what some of us have been up to can bring a little inspiration for the adventures and outdoor escape that can be found close to home

Up first is Niamh; Pinkston instructor, student, and regular paddler. Able to call South Lanarkshire home she has been out to play on the water with dad Dougie

Here’s what she has to say:
“How bad does it have to be for this to be good? All jokes aside, I am in a super fortunate position to have a local river on my doorstep and a family member to go boating with. Although this isn’t the most exciting river in the world, getting outside (often in the pouring rain) allows us to to enjoy some fresh air and slide down a few rapids! I know I’m lucky and these pictures probably won’t help but just hang on a wee bit longer! Hopefully see you all on the water soon!”
We totally believe in the recognised 5 ways to well-being – connect – be active – take notice – give – keep learning. We would love to share as many stories as we can of how our community is doing this. If you would like your story to be up next please drop us a message!

Our Start Kayaking sessions are all about getting you on the water and experiencing the joys of kayaking in a safe and fun way. These adult sessions are for anyone over the age of 16 who want to get on the water and learn the basics of kayaking with basic skills and challenges. We use our great sit on top kayaks meaning that we have the best platform for learning skills without the challenges or fears of ‘getting stuck’.

This session includes your British Canoeing Paddle Start Certificate.
